Three Sentence Ficathon 2016!

(Because one didn't seem to have started this year, and I admit to wanting very much to participate in one of these challenges!)
Presenting the Three Sentence Ficathon 2016!

The Steps:
1. Prompt the fandom/pairing/situation of your heart, preferably in the following format: fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence. .
2. Find a prompt by someone else (or heck, your own) that catches your interest.
3. Fill the prompt in no more than three sentences. (NB: This is really more of a guideline
4. Revel in reading the (hopefully large) amounts of fics thereby produced.
5. PROFIT!

the father of courage (SW:TFA, Rey gen)

Rey knew what she was going to see when she walked into the forest clearing; Luke had warned her that the Dark Side was thick in the space, and she'd suffered the visions before.

But this -- this was different, the quiet way the other woman looked at her, wrists thin and hair knotted in the exact same way Rey used to wear hers, her expression disappointed.

Her mother didn't have to say a thing (her imagining of her mother, was this what her mother had looked like?); Rey's palms stung with the press of her own fingernails, and her voice was shaky as she answered the unspoken question: "Yes, I left."

she is not the Easter Bunny (Zootopia, Judy & Nick)

[personal profile] possibilityleft 2016-03-24 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It turns out that Nick is the best undercover officer in Zootopia; the old stereotypes work to his advantage, even though he hates to be, even for a moment, just what the criminal thinks he should be.

Judy is the opposite -- she just stands like a cop, her foot tapping, her encouraging smile too obvious -- to the point where he really has to improvise in order to carry off this sting.

"You told them I was what?" Judy screams after him as they bolt down the street, hooves pounding behind them in pursuit, and honestly, Nick is pretty glad that he's too busy trying to catch his breath to try to answer her: what did she expect, putting a fox in charge?

To be frank, Harold doesn't like it either: he's getting used to getting himself out of trouble, but he never enjoys the heart-pounding terror that accompanies many of his travels 'into the field,' and he can feel the sweat cooling on his brow to prove it.

"This is a partnership," he says instead, and John just stares at him for a long moment before reaching out to rest a heavy hand on Harold's shoulder.

"Next time you need someone to point and click, let me know," John says, before pulling Harold in against his chest, and Harold doesn't respond, he just begins to breathe.

Ohh, I was hoping someone would fill this prompt, and this is excellent. Beautiful Rey voice, and I love the idea of her challenge being facing her mother and her choice to leave (and the resolve hinted at in those last three words).

There are two sets of dead parents and plenty of kinder dead people between them; ghosts are part of their lives just as much as the living are. So when Rey wakes up screaming at a rocketship that only exists in her memory, Finn comforts her; when Finn cries for a man without a name, Rey just wraps her arms around him and waits for the moment to pass. And if they can feel a presence, almost like someone nodding in approval, when these things happen, they keep it to themselves; most of the ones that would care are dead, after all.

Sometimes, they really worry her: serial killers, crazy priests, uprisings, more or less every potentially lethal situation that anyone could dream up. She's long since learned not to think about what they are doing because it will only bring back the fear of having to dig another grave; the only way not to panic is to carry on as if they're completely fine. Soon after they leave, she repairs the old golden lantern that sits at the attic's window; when they're in Resembool again, they'll see it and know that she's still waiting for them.

Failure is not an option

Quirinus Quirrell, Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter

He had disapppointed his Lord deeply and he knew it; no matter how difficult the task was–how heavily guarded Gringotts is–he knew the Dark Lord would accept no excuses for why the Philosopher's Stone was not brought to him as he had asked.

"Fear not, Quirrell," the Dark Lord hissed in his high voice after watching his servant apologize fearfully before him, "I shall ensure you will have all the help you need next time I send you on a task."

As he carefully wrapped the turban around his head for the first time, gently covering his master's face, he finally recognized that it was not help Lord Voldemort had promised, but punishment for his failure.

This is interesting. I like the way you frame Voldemort's and Quirrel's relationship.

Oh man, this is great – gorgeous and sweet, and it gets right at their shared experiences as people haunted by the families they've never known, literally and figuratively.

And if they can feel a presence, almost like someone nodding in approval, when these things happen, they keep it to themselves; most of the ones that would care are dead, after all.

Ahh, perfect! :D

This is lovely – spot on character voice, and the image of the old golden lantern and Winry waiting for Ed and Al is beautifully atmospheric. <3

Minerva’s patronus and her animagus forms are feline, always were, from the first time she cast the spells that now come so easily to her and she had no litter, bore no bairns of her own when it was possible. Now Tom Riddle may think he is the most important wizard ever to stride the corridors of Hogwarts and that he can return here to triumph, but Minerva has been in a good many Sorting Ceremonies and seen childish faces full of trepidation or hope walk towards the Hat after their names were called, she's seen the big, toothy grins as 'Gryffindor' or 'Hufflepuff' have rung out, the faint looks of doubt at other times, she has seen hundreds of children go to a table stacked with food, surrounded by older students there to let them know that it is now their table and that one day they will grow tall, their heads a little fuller of magical lore, the ones welcoming new students to their midst - and Voldermort means to stop all that by the foulest of means, does he? The mother bear in Minerva's breast rouses, and she casts the first of many protective spells, until the time comes for attack.

“I’m so thirsty,” someone complains in the lab, and Jemma wants to be snide and snap ‘No, you’re not,’ because it can’t be that long since they guzzled something down and there are water coolers, coffee machines and fridges aplenty around. Thirsty is wandering for days on a desert planet that’s a cruel blue when you’d always associated the colour with water, and you don’t know if any liquid that you’ll find will be safe to drink, but you do know that if you find anything, you would drink it with mouth gaping wide, even if it was a figment of your desperate imagination, rather than dry out as you’re slowly doing.

Jemma takes a deep breath, and reminds herself of where she is, the bright lights of the lab and the mechanical noises of the lab grounding her, whereas a few weeks ago, it was all too much; and she says quite loudly, “I’m going to make some tea if anyone fancies some.”

I love this! I like the way you contrast Jemma's past and present; your writing's really true to her character.
