Three Sentence Ficathon 2016!

(Because one didn't seem to have started this year, and I admit to wanting very much to participate in one of these challenges!)
Presenting the Three Sentence Ficathon 2016!

The Steps:
1. Prompt the fandom/pairing/situation of your heart, preferably in the following format: fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence. .
2. Find a prompt by someone else (or heck, your own) that catches your interest.
3. Fill the prompt in no more than three sentences. (NB: This is really more of a guideline
4. Revel in reading the (hopefully large) amounts of fics thereby produced.
5. PROFIT!

"We could rob a bank," Riley suggests. "I mean, rob it and then pay them back, after you're a famous artist. We only need enough for your school and our apartment, so it will probably only take three or four years."

She is perfectly serious which frightens and delights Maya.

"No honey, we're not gonna rob a bank. I'll . . . I'll get a scholarship, or something. And a job. We both will. It'll be fine."

Riley weighs the merit of this depressingly adult counter-proposal with thin-lipped, furrowed-brow care before blooming into sunny smiles. "Yes, okay, that could work too. Although," because in the past five minutes this has somehow become a point of pride for her, "I'd be a super sneaky burglar."

"Oh yeah," Maya smiles fondly. "The super sneakiest."

The first time he goes hungry, Finn realizes (again, anew, another facet of understanding) what leaving the First Order means.

The Resistance hides where it is safe, makes do with what they have, and allow their people freedom to make decisions for themselves, which is terrible discipline. The First Order treated all his injuries efficiently, served nutritionally balanced meals several times per day, and operated under strict protocol to keep troops in formation. Finn has noticed Poe almost never performs pre-flight checks, medics can only do what they have the supplies for, and dinner is smuggled rations and whatever local flora and fauna can be captured. It's a mess, really.

And yet, it all seems worth it, somehow, even if it will all probably end in Rey or Poe flying him straight into the side of a mountain.

Oh hell yes, this is fantastic. Great Finn voice (even if it will all probably end in Rey or Poe flying him straight into the side of a mountain.), and I absolutely love that you took it in the direction of him not being comfortable with or approving of everything the Resistance does differently and especially the lack of First Order discipline, which makes a ton of sense.

He's twenty-three when he first kills someone, a nameless Ishvalan child who crumbles into ash as he tries not to vomit.

He's twenty-three when he realizes that this is not a war, it's a genocide campaign, aided and abetted by the top official that he will need to replace if he hopes no never do this again.

He's twenty-three when he starts his campaign to become Fuhrer, with Maes behind him and Hawkeye watching his back and the decision that he'll worry about the means to this end later.

Oh man, this is so good – Roy was a perfect choice for the prompt, and you got right to the heart of him here, with all his crimes and his resolve to make things change.

When she was a child, the only thing Rey had to hold onto was the belief that her family would come back for her, that this harsh, desolate planet of shifting sands that she’d been left on and the desperate struggle to scrape by day by day and the ongoing fear of starvation were all just one painful stop on her journey to something better, something happier.

Now though, the years stretched long and dull and hopeless behind her and before, and as she sat in the shade of the sand covered carcass of a relic of a bygone era, eating the scraps of a life of forced servitude, she couldn’t help but fear that all her belief had been for nought, that there really wasn’t anyone coming for her after all these years of loneliness.

“Is there anyone out there?” she whispered into the silent landscape of dust, the cracked helmet of a fallen warrior on her head just one more reminder that no matter how much she hoped and struggled, there was no help to be found in these scorching desert sands.

It takes a long time before Capable has the chance to relax and breathe and think again; building a new society from the shattered remains of the Citadel and everything Joe left behind hadn’t been easy, even with all of the rest of the former wives and Furiosa to help and the War Boys more than happy just to have someone to tell them what needed to be done.

When things are more settled- food and water and work distributed more evenly to the people so that no one is suffering or straining just to live anymore- she goes out to the edge of the gardens, almost to where the desert sands still creep in and try to encroach on their lives, and looks out on the shifting sand and water marriages far away on the horizon and she remembers.

They’ve all lost a lot just to get to where they are now and she knows, just as the other former wives do, that they cannot forget those who will never see how much things have changed for the better; sitting in the sun, surrounded by the green of a new chance at life, this is her time to remember their sacrifices.

any, anyf/any f, tell me you're sorry

[identity profile] noor-us-sabah.livejournal.com 2016-03-20 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Nobody ever says it aloud, so it's hard to say how word gets around. But a month or two after she returns to school none of them dare talk about her. It's as if the understanding runs through them in wary silence, a warning sparked from one girl to the next, danger telegraphed without sound.

You mustn't speak ill of Lucy Pevensie. If you do, somehow she will know.

By half-term, they are almost afraid of her.

She almost likes it.

Oh gosh, this is perfect – bittersweet and beautiful, and I love the image of Capable sitting at the edge of the gardens and looking out on the desert. <3

Toast is troubled, Furiosa knows, and has been since they buried Angharad's bones at sunset, but – as familiar as her form is, bare and sweat-slick in the heated dark, as often as they've found solace in each other, Furiosa doesn't yet understand the moving parts that drive the formidable engine of her mind; she knows anger when she sees it, and grief when she breathes it in with every kiss, but she isn't expecting Toast to draw back, distance and moonlight in her eyes, and say, "Tell me you're sorry she didn't make it back."

Furiosa runs her good hand idly over the curve of Toast's hip and thinks of Angharad falling beneath the wheels, that sharp cry and sudden silence, and then she thinks of Joe's blood on the sand, the Citadel reborn as shelter and oasis, and the delay that had let the rest of them make it out alive; she wishes she could simply turn and say what Toast wants to hear, be what Toast needs her to be, but the desert is harsh and she's learned to be harsher, and she would kill to keep this woman safe, but she will not lie for her comfort.

"I can't," she says, hollow-voiced and unflinching, "because I'm not."

This is wonderful! I like how you wound both of their respective magics into the narrative (Terra's dual esper/human nature, and Celes's affinity for ice magic). You've packed so much emotion and detail into just three sentences.

WOW. The awe-almost-fear telegraphed (great word choice) through the school, and Lucy dangerously, almost enjoying it, this power of a different sort... this is fantastic! I can almost feel the current of unease -- somehow, she will know! So well done, thank you!
