Three Sentence Ficathon 2016!

(Because one didn't seem to have started this year, and I admit to wanting very much to participate in one of these challenges!)
Presenting the Three Sentence Ficathon 2016!

The Steps:
1. Prompt the fandom/pairing/situation of your heart, preferably in the following format: fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence. .
2. Find a prompt by someone else (or heck, your own) that catches your interest.
3. Fill the prompt in no more than three sentences. (NB: This is really more of a guideline
4. Revel in reading the (hopefully large) amounts of fics thereby produced.
5. PROFIT!

Discworld: Guards! Guards!, Sam Vimes/Sybil Ramkin (& Erroll/the Noble Dragon)

You've got magnificent prompts, you know? This triggered not one, but two fills in me (one still being worked on).

If the City was a woman, it was a very perif- perfi- fickle one. Plumes and polished breastplates and shiny swords and nobles and kings, ha! It dangled alluringly just out of reach and when you reached it slipped from you and it was just a raven, just a raven flying away and crowing "Nevermore!" at you mockingly --- wait, where did that last bit come from?

* * *

Sybil watched the two dragons in their air dance and felt an unaccustomed hopeful poetic feeling surging in her. Maybe they could make it work after all. Maybe she could find a way to rework the encumbering heritage of her ancestry into something that could be a match to the glorious untamed raw power that was Samuel Vimes, who should not exist in this city, but gods was she glad he did.

Swallows & Amazons (maybe Picts and Martyrs, please?), the Ds, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it

Ye gods, this is good. I love everything to do with Vimes, and both of these have managed to really capture the feel of their characters. Perfect Guards! Guards! era Sam (Plumes and polished breastplates and shiny swords and nobles and kings, ha!), and I love the look inside Sybil's head – practical and romantic at once.

As for the prompt, I stole it from song lyrics. I'm not that creative on my own. :)

I'm so glad you liked it! I've never written Wanda before so I was a little nervous, but kind of called me for this prompt :)

Marvel/My own Painkiller AU, Frank Castle & Joan & Dave

[personal profile] marmota_b 2016-04-09 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sooo... my AU strikes again.

Dave buried his forefinger deep in the pile of spent coffee grounds from the day before.
"Eww," Joan made a disgusted face at him. Frank shrugged at her; sparing with words as he was, he did not go into the trouble of pointing out he'd used his own finger to get the stuff out from the coffee maker.
Dave commented: "This feels wrong - there should be a way to repurpose this."
"When I agreed to run a diner with you, I had no idea you would turn into such a hipster," Joan said, but she considered the question anyway. "Can't you use them as fertiliser - grow roses or some such?"
Frank's eyebrows rose above his cup.
"In Brooklyn?"
"You could grow stuff on fire escapes," Dave said, clearly getting lost in his idea of an urban organic paradise as he used to be in his videogames. Joan gave him another incredulous look.
"Fire. Escapes," Frank said, not incredulously but like a teacher explaining patiently to a child too slow on the uptake. Dave reacted by making an "oh!" sound and practically hiding himself in his cup.
"Don't ever block a tactical exit in a twenty mile radius of Frank," Joan giggled, and immediately found herself the only one not staring intently into her morning coffee.

"Oh come on, kiss and make up," he urged them, with some considerable exasperation.
He should extend his policy of non-interference to unmarried couples; they mutually decided to take a swing at him. Still, that was a start.

Having a bike was new; and after all they had been through, he was still surprised that she had had it found and given it back to him. "I promised," she had said, as if having driven it back to her with a different plan had not done anything to erase the promise.
He never promised anything, spent countless nights away; but as sure as that bike (new, unexpected, but somehow just right) had come back to him, he always came back to her.

Highlander: The Series, Methos & Duncan, To Be

[personal profile] marmota_b 2016-04-09 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good bye," Methos said. And it had layers; on one layer it could mean "good luck", and Duncan knew him well enough to suss that out. On another layer entirely, it meant "I'll be there, but you would try to stop me or give me away by being stupid, so we're both better off without you knowing."

"Peak District trespassers jailed," Dorothea read aloud, furiously, "and listen! Lakeland must be kept free of this madness, local magistrate opines."

" Yes," said Dick, soberly, answering Dorothea's tones, rather than her words, "of course they're right, and ordinary people should be able to walk on the fells and climb crags, not just people like us, but if you did try to stir up the same sort of thing here... look here, Dot, we've only just managed this whole G.A. business, and this could mean police and newspapers, and serious trouble."

"But if it's right, Dick - and I could write to the newspapers myself, anyway - and if it's police... well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

(History note: in April 1932, not long before the events of Picts and Martyrs the Kinder Scott Mass Trespass began the opening up of rights to walk on Britain's wild places. It's a terrific story.)
